M12 A-Coded Connectors

The M12 A-coded connector is the standard sensor and actuator interface in factory automation. If a device talks IO-Link, a photoelectric sensor, a valve bank or a small motor needs a field connection, an A-coded M12 is usually what’s on the drawing.

We stock the full pole range – 3, 4, 5, 8 and 12 – in male and female, straight and angled, field-wireable and overmoulded. Panel-mount versions with solder or PCB tails are available for your device side.

Contacts are gold-plated over nickel as standard, which matters more than it sounds – a tin contact on a sensor line will oxidise and drop out in a humid plant. We rate our A-coded parts to 500 mating cycles minimum.

Choosing termination

Field-wireable connectors use screw or crimp termination and suit panel builds where the cable length isn’t fixed yet. Overmoulded pigtails suit production where every unit is the same length. If you’re not sure, tell us the cable and we’ll recommend one.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between A-coded and D-coded M12?

A-coded carries power and simple signals for sensors and actuators. D-coded is a 4-pole connector wired for 100 Mbps Ethernet. Same shell, different pin arrangement – they are not interchangeable.

Can I get a straight and angled version of the same connector?

Yes, both are standard and stocked in the common pole counts.

What IP rating do the mated pairs reach?

IP67 when mated with a matching connector. IP68 versions are available for washdown areas.
