The M12 X-coded connector is the 8-pole, 10 Gigabit industrial Ethernet interface. Where a D-coded M12 tops out at 100 Mbps, an X-coded runs 10 Gbps over Cat6A – the difference between a machine vision camera stream that buffers and one that flows.

Ten-gigabit signalling is unforgiving about termination. The X-coded layout spaces the four pairs in a cross to limit crosstalk, and the shield must be terminated 360 degrees. If you field-terminate these, expect a learning curve; if you’d rather not, we also supply factory-terminated patch cords and overmoulded pigtails so the cable arrives tested.
When X-coded earns its cost
Use it when a D-coded link can’t keep up: multi-camera machine vision, daisy-chained high-bandwidth sensors, or a backbone between a cell and the plant network. For a single sensor or a valve, D-coded is still the right and cheaper call.

Can X-coded run at 100 Mbps too?
Yes, it’s backwards-compatible over Cat5e cable, but if you only need 100 Mbps a D-coded is cheaper.
